DC Day 3

By Chris

Got out of the hotel and around the city today, so these pictures will be slightly more interesting than hotel room stuff (though maybe not to Teresa . . . who is into the room pics). The pictures relate to the event that brings me here (www.celebrationonthehill.org). Before the pics, some radom thoughts. I could get used to working at a desk with a flat screen tv to watch. But, the satellite system is not functioning properly, so a bunch of channels are malfunctioning, including ESPN, which may get in the way of Monday Night Football with the Steelers!

The pics:

Event stage area being constructed (looking out from the steps of the Capitol, over the reflecting pool, down the National Mall with Washington Monument in the distance)

View from the stge area looking towards the Capitol. Event organizers in orange shirts (yes, I am orange-clad for the week too. You will not see a photo of me in it though!

A picture of the Wall of Hope memorial under construction, made up of 5,000 banners from communities all over the country. A beam of light will be lit Tuesday and Wednesday nights to rise from the 4-block long display, the largest such structure constructed on the site.

Finally, nothing to do with Celebration on the Hill . . . but a few of us ducked into one of the museums right on the Mall to grab lunch (you can't beat the mall . . . all these museums with free entry). Here's a pic of a Tomahawk missile we have heard so much about lately.

I've enjoyed the pictures. It sounds like you're having a good week and enjoying your hotel accommodations. We miss you here, though.
